Response

There is a chance, albeit slight, that the defensive player MAY play and accumulate points at some time.

Priest is 'Harry' Dunn.

Caption Contest

Commish here. I was perusing the proverbial facebook for some dirt on GOM members, and came across this picture of the Co on the dance floor (with what appears to be a girl less than 10 years old). Holy bleep.....someone get Hansen on the line!! Time for a little caption contest...add you caption to the comments section, and be sure to check out the couple getting hot and heavy in the back right corner! If i were getting married soon (see "Keep It"), I'd be a bit concerned about this type of activity going on.

How is Priest the worst

My bro drafted a defensive player. How that is not #1 is beyond me. Not to mention Priest was coming back to help an injured LJ. Would have been a good pick if he didnt get hurt. Ill have to ponder any further thoughts on this on the golf course in Myrtle tomorrow.

Biggest Draft Day Blunders - by Keep It

As the Commish only has draft data dating back to 2006 draft, we will determine the biggest draft day blunders since the 2006 draft (2006 and 2007 drafts are the only drafts included).

Note: Injury, at this point, would not make a player a bust...yet. However, lack of playing time, dressing for games, etc. would make a player a bust so far. Also, keep in mind that it is only 2008 (so most of these players would have only had two seasons to play so far) so it is quite unfair to judge them given their brief careers. But, we are going to do it anyway. Without further ado, the top 10 draft day blunders by the respective GOM league team.

Note 2: Donald Driver as Keep It's first rd pick in the circa 2003 draft will not make the list as the respective draft was prior to 2006 (and the GOM League Dynasty edition). And, if I may, Troy Williamson as the number 2 overall in the 2005 draft will not make the list for the same reason (career stats: 79 receptions, 1067 yards, 3 tds). If he was in the NFL for one season, he would not be on the list, but these stats are over a 3 year span. But, in retrospect, he had a good season in other ways - 0 fumbles.

Top 10 Draft Blunders (06 and 07 drafts to date)

Note: I tried to keep the list to 10, but after I looked at the drafts, there was just too much.

13. Matt Leinart (3rd overall, 2006 Draft, ID4s) Matt would not be on the list as his 07 season ended with injuries. However, his inspirational 07 campaign racked up 2 tds and 4 int. To make matters much worse, he was splitting time with a 500 year old Kurt Warner. Not exactly what you would expect/hope from the 3rd overall and ID4's franchise QB. He is, however, hanging out with Lachey and other 20 year old hotties. So, I guess life is not so bad. Of course, football is another story.

12. Brandon Jackson (4th overall, 2007 draft, Frizz's Boys) Usually a solid drafter, Frizz picked a guy who dressed for 11 games and tallied 75 rushes, 267 yards, 1 td before he was replaced by DeShawn Wynn and Ryan Grant.

11. Dwayne Jarrett (9th overall, 2007 draft, Nators) 7 games, 6 receptions, 73 yards. Can you say Mike Williams? But on the positive side, 2 of his catches did go for first downs.

10. Brady Quinn (7th overall, 2007 draft, BTR) 3-8, 45 yards with no improvement in sight as he is playing behind Pro bowler Derek Anderson. Picked on speculation that the league would shift to a 2 quarterback league, Manny Hung decided the 2007 draft, pick 7, was the time to take Brady Quinn. Manny may have jumped the gun on this one.

9. Sinorice Moss (11th overall, 2006 draft, BTR) 26 receptions, 250 yards, 0 tds in 2 seasons (although he 'played' in 19 games). Not to mention, he failed to meet expectations so badly, that in 2007, the Giants drafted another receiver named Steve Smith that lead the Giants to their first Superbowl since the earlier 90s.

8. Jason Hill (25th overall, round 2, 2007 draft, Lakeshow) 1 reception, 6 yards Who is this and why was he drafted?

7. Skylar Green (27th overall, round 3, Hangin) Dressed for 9 games in two seasons (one with Dallas, one with Cincinattica) and had 3 receptions.

6. Joe Klopfenstein (22nd pick overall, 2006 draft, Black Knights) 22 receptions (in two seasons, 2 catches last season), 263 yards, 2 tds. BK, did you need a TE this badly?

5. Travis Wilson (round 3, pick 30, RyKCo.) Played 4 games in 2006 with 2 receptions. Was out of the league by the first game in 2007.

4. David Clowney(37th overall, 2007 draft, Lakeshow) - no stats available - I feel like this guy was cut in training camp.

3. Will Blackmon (Pick 39, 4th rd, Hangin w/Mr. Dawley). When you go to the yahoo website player stats, he has no offensive stats. The GOM does not care about defensive players.

2. Zach Hilton (Pick 17, 2006 Draft, Dawlinators) Has not played since 2005 when he had 35 receptions for 396 yards and a td. He also missed the 2004 season, but played in 3 games in 03 tallying 0 statistics.

1. Priest Holmes(27th overall, 2nd round, Off in the Woods) 46 rushes, 137 yards, 0 tds, RETIRED: 11/21/07

Honorable Mentions: Michael Bush (you know - because they drafted Darren McFadden in 2007 and resigned Justin Fargas)

Funny note: Chad Jackson was taken in 2006 by the Black Knights in the first round at selection 9 and caught 13 passes for 152. A year later he was drafted again (cut to free agency prior to the 2007 draft) by Off in the Woods in the fourth round at selection 44 and had 0 receptions. Special teams does not count for anything in the GOM last time I checked.

Frizz, Guns Strike Deal

AP-
The Top Guns announced today that they have shipped the #5 overall pick in this years draft to Frizz's Boys in exchange for talented TE Jason Witten. The deal was struck while Pete Mitchell, aka Maverick, was in the dental chair of Frizz's Newton office. It is thought to be the first ever GOM deal that was agreed to during a medical procedure, in this case, a dental x-ray.

Lachey and Gold make history....again.

When Gold and Lachey get together, blockbusters just happen. They just appear out of thin air. Unfathomable deals simply spring out of the earth and forever change the face of our Get Off Me League. It's quite literally the single greatest thing in the history of fantasy football and probably the world. Gold and Lachey get on the horn and mega-deals just happen.

Also, this just happened:

Look out.

Hansen- "Scott, what are you doing here, I thought Stewie Scott was doing this interview?"
VP- "Stu's lazt eye couldn't find the studio in time, your answer?"

Hansen- "Yes"
VP- "How have you been able to transform your team into a playoff contender"

Benson Makes it Public!

After years of being questioned by GOM General Managers everywhere, Cedric Benson himself finally made it clear to Walton that he is what everyone says he was. An Absolute Bust!

GOM Mock Draft

Round 1

1. Darren McFadden - The Co.

Analysis: This pick is essentially a lock. The Co. traded for the No. 1 overall with full intention of taking DMC. Though you can't realistically expect a Peterson-type impact, this guy does have the chance to be special. Oakland will make strides on offense and McFadden will be a key part of that.

2. Rashard Mendenhall - Chuckie's Champs

Analysis: The Champs are in a tough spot here. There really isn't a player, from a fantasy perspective, worth taking this high. They will seriously consider trading out of this pick, but if they're unable to do so, then Mendenhall is the pick based on his NFL upside. Though, he might not make much of an impact in his rookie year playing behind Parker.

3. Matt Forte - Lakeshow

Analysis: Some might be surprised by this pick, but you really shouldn't be. Have I seen this man take a handoff? No. But sources within the Bears organization say he was going to seriously compete with Cedric Benson for the starting spot in training camp, and now it seems with the most recent legal news surrounding the disappointing Texas product, Forte might be handed the job.

4. Jonathan Stewart - BTR

Analysis: This pick makes sense for a number of reasons. The team is relatively thin at the running back position since the departure of LT, and assuming a bounce-back year from Steve Smith, the WR corp is rock solid. Not to mention Stewart is challenging DeAngelo Williams for his starting job.

5. James Hardy - Top Guns

Analysis: Of all the WRs in this class, Hardy has the best chance to produce in his rookie year. He'll be a nice compliment to the speedy Lee Evans, and should be a monster near the goal-line.

6. Kevin Smith - Top Guns

Analysis: Having just addressed the WR position, the Guns will move their attention to the backfield. Smith had a very productive college career and should take over the starting role in the Detroit backfield after the release of Kevin Jones.

7. Limas Sweed - Keep It

Analysis: With the uncertainty surrounding Marvin Harrison, the team will be looking to acquire a potential replacement. Hines Ward's best days are behind him and Sweed can step up and form a nice WR combo with Santonio Holmes in a good offense. His size, as with Hardy, will create huge mismatches in the red zone. This is an extremely good value pick at this point in the draft.

8. Malcolm Kelly - Off in the Woods

Analysis: The recent departure of Roy Williams means the team will need to address the starting spot opposite Andre Johnson. Kelly, despite his pre-draft decline, has all the tools to become a productive NFL receiver. I see him as a boom or bust prospect who is certainly worth the gamble.

9. Chris Johnson - Top Guns

Analysis: An absolute speed demon who was highly productive in college, Johnson will form a nice thunder and lightning pair with LenDale White. But, he has the potential to be a whole lot more, as indicated by the Titans selecting him in the first round. I flat out love this pick for the Guns.

10. Devin Thomas - Frizz's Boys

Analysis: A superb judge of talent when it comes to the GOM draft. Not sure I can think of one draftee that turned out to be a bust. That's why this pick makes sense for Frizz. Thomas slipped a little on draft day, but he's got exceptional tools and should fit nicely into the West Coast system in Washington. He'll pair up with Dwayne Bowe and the plethora of running backs on the roster.

11. DeSean Jackson - Hangin' With

Analysis: How could Jackson slip this far? Well, there are concerns about his bulk and durability at the NFL level and everyone will question if he'll ever become more than a solid punt-returner. But Hangin's roster is loaded, with no apparent holes, so this pick is a nice gamble for him.

12. Mario Manningham - Top Guns

Analysis: Perhaps no player had a worse pre-draft campaign. Once considered the first WR off the board, Manningham's stock plummeted after he admitted to using marijuana, ran a 4.6 40 at the Combine, and scored a 6 out of 40 on the Wonderlic Test. Also some people, including this writer, feel he wasn't even the best WR on his college team. However, he's too good a talent to pass up this late in the first round. He'll take over for his Michigan counterpart opposite Plaxico Burress.

13. Felix Jones - Keep It

Analysis: You can't argue with taking a back that was selected in the first round. Jones is super quick, but just as was the case at Arkansas, he'll be backing up a stud in the Big D. He's the best available on the board, but might not get enough carries in his rookie season to warrant fantasy attention.

14. Jamaal Charles - Team Dime

Analysis: An insurance policy for Larry Johnson, who is coming off season-ending foot surgery. The team desperately needs WR help, but if Lachey doesn't move up, then the logical choice is to take Charles.

15. Early Doucet - Keep It

Analysis: This a luxury pick for Keep It. Doucet, who used to be 1st round material, but fell leading up the draft, makes a perfect selection for the March Madness pick. He'll be playing behind Fitzgerald and Boldin, but the Cardinals pass so frequently that he should see a decent number of balls. And, if the oft-injured Boldin were to go down, Doucet would see a nice jump in production.

Notable Second Round Picks:

16. Matt Ryan - Top Guns

Analysis: The Guns would be well-served to wait on taking Ryan until the second round.

17. Fred Davis - BTR

Analysis: New York Jet Dustin Keller is always an option here, but Davis has better name recognition and the USC product should pan out better than Dominique Byrd did.

18. Steve Slaton - Dawlinators

Analysis: Slaton was a college phenom looking to make a name for himself in the pros. He could become a MJD-type.

19. Ray Rice - Top Guns

Analysis: Blue collar guy. Great fit for this team as he should eventually slide into a flex spot.
